Future Steel Buildings

Most structures around the world are constructed using metals for durability purposes. One such metal that has gained prominence is steel. It is an alloy of iron and carbon in varying amounts, with iron being in large quantities. The quantity of carbon is dependent on the grades expected, hence the more the amounts the higher the quality. The carbon content is between 0.2% and 2.1%. Other materials used for this purpose are manganese, tungsten and chromium, which act as hardeners. There are many uses of steel buildings and structures in the world, and it is important to consider their many characteristics.

Planes need hangars and doors, which are often made from steel. The doors undergo manufacturing and subsequent installation, and can not only be manual but also electric. Hangars on the other hand are used for protection against harsh weather conditions and ultra violet light from the sun. In addition, they contain built in permanent docks, garages or even offices. Thus, they provide environments that are conducive for the safety docking of planes.

Industries and factories need to be strongly built to match their purposes. In addition to being an ideal material for manufacturing, goods can also be stored within the storage facilities of the industries, awaiting transportation. Due to its durability and its inherent nature to withstand corrosion, steel is the most preferred for the construction of these structures. Other facilities housed within the industries are areas for docking, transport facilities and different business departments.

Undoubtedly, the largest storage facilities are warehouses. These are mostly found in industrial areas of big towns and cities. More often than not, they are used by exporters, transport businesses and importers for efficient storage of stocks prior to delivery. As a precaution, they ought to be able to withstand high wind speeds or seismic loads. This underlines the need for durability and efficiency in extreme weather conditions.

Commercial buildings are essential and cannot go unmentioned. With the industrialization rate at an all-time maximum, there is an increasing need for better delivery of services and goods. Commercial structures also include shopping malls, supermarkets, wholesales and stores with a retail purpose. Offices may also be included in this subgroup. Many people would rather do their purchases from such outlets given the level of convenience that they have.

To facilitate passage over steep places, bridges have to be constructed. The biggest highway bridges can incorporate carriageways ranging from two to even eight lanes. Road and contractor bridges are meant for trucks. The former is so small that they carry just minor and feeder roads. Contractor bridges are meant for heavier loads that cannot be sustained by smaller structures. Other types are made to be used by pedestrians, bicycles, motor bicycles and trains. They should be firm, lest they collapse under the weight of the loads.

Apart from the above uses, there are other numerous ways that steel is of essence in society. It can be utilized to put up stadiums and grandstands. Churches and storey car parks are erected too. Evidently, steel buildings and structures have quite a number of functions in society. The two major facts that make it popular are the fact that it is very durable and resistance to corrosion. Clearly, it would be hard to do without steel.
